Along the North Cascades Highway

The North Cascades are one of the most inaccessible and beautiful mountain ranges in America. There are only a few roads that penetrate range’s interior. So, the only way to experience most of the North Cascades is on foot. In my much younger, dumber and fitter years, I hiked its trails and climbed many of its peaks. But now, like most people, I enjoy the rugged beauty of the range from the North Cascades Highway, which is closed from November to May. These images were made during a trip after the first big winter snows covered the peaks, but the road was still open. Click on any image below to view larger and browse through the portfolio.
