When Waves Collide

The west coast of the U.S. is often spectacular.  Swells and storms travel across the wide Pacific Ocean to ultimately crash into our coastline.  The winds, tides and storms shape the water into unique, sculptural waves, which I love to photograph.  The photos in this portfolio were made on two visits to Harris Beach State Park in Brookings, OR.  Across from the Beach lies Goat Island, the largest island on the Oregon coast.  When the arriving swells encounter the island, they split in two and wrap around the north and south sides.  The swells often crash into each other in the middle of the island’s back side creating fantastic shapes.  Click on any image below to view larger and browse through the portfolio.
